Fungi: Friend or Foe? - CANCELLED
Fungi, in their many forms, have helped save millions of lives by producing drugs that fight infection. However, fungi themselves are also one of the world's biggest killers. Scientists from the University of Aberdeen’s Fungal Group will present an interactive display for children, describing the double-life of fungi – and how they are vital in saving millions of lives globally whilst also being responsible for millions of deaths. They will show how vital fungi are in fighting disease but also how fungi feature in some surprising places in our daily lives, such as soy sauce, bread and even cheese and onion crisps.
Taking place in Aberdeen Science Centre, 179 Constitution Street, Aberdeen, AB24 5TU. The Science Centre features exhibits on Energy, Space and Life Sciences, plus for one day only the University of Aberdeen will have a stand for UK Fungus Day. Entrance fees for the Science Centre are payable (adults £11.50, children 3-17 years £7.50, children under 3 are free, over 60+ and students £9.50, family ticket £35).
Organised by the University of Aberdeen.
